Exploring fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and engineering through educational videos, practical tools, and real-world applications.

About

Hi, I'm Trevor Gilkerson, a mechanical engineer, graduate student, and creator of The Fluids Engineer.I started The Fluids Engineer to make fluid mechanics and heat transfer more approachable for students, engineers, and anyone curious about how fluids shape the world around us. Whether it's water flowing through a pipe, air moving over a rocket, or heat being transferred through a complex engineering system, I've always been fascinated by the physics that govern these phenomena. My path into engineering began through a 3-2 engineering program, where I studied at Wheaton College (IL) before completing my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. Along the way, I had the opportunity to lead Wheaton's LiDAR 3D mapping project for archaeological excavations. Later, I joined Washington University's rocketry team and served as the Aerodynamics Subteam Lead for NASA's University Student Launch Initiative.Today, I work as a Mechanical Engineer at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, where I contribute to engineering challenges that require a strong understanding of thermal-fluid systems, analytical problem solving, and engineering fundamentals. To continue developing my expertise, I am pursuing a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering through Purdue University.Through this website and YouTube channel, my goal is to share what I'm learning, build useful engineering tools, and help others develop a deeper intuition for fluid flow and thermal systems. You'll find educational videos, engineering calculators, worked examples, and explorations of how fluid mechanics appears in real-world applications.Whether you're a student studying for an exam, an engineer solving a design problem, or simply someone interested in understanding how the physical world works, I hope you'll find something valuable here.Welcome to The Fluids Engineer.
